James Robert Tough
Born: 16 September 1944
Died: 10 October 2006
I am fearfully and wonderfully made; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!”. Excerpt from Psalm 139
Jim was born September 16, 1944, in Vancouver, to Bob and Margaret Tough. He died very unexpectedly, yet peacefully, at home on October 10th, 2006.
Dad’s childhood was a happy one, in spite of the fact that he sometimes had a rough time because of his allergies. His Mom wisely made him a banana cone instead of the ice cream when he and his friends celebrated. She always said he was an easy baby and a pleasure to raise. He had many good memories from his childhood years.
At 18, Dad joined the navy with the goal of becoming a pilot and that is exactly what happened. In fact, career-wise, whatever he set his mind to do, he made a success of. His coworkers loved him. He had a good sense of humor. He remained faithfully in the service of the navy for thirty some years. When he needed a change, he went first to the electrical field and later became a draftsman. His last five years, he was at C.T. Loewen and loved the challenge; not only the job (architecturally) but the people as well. He will be sorely missed there.
A real highlight in Dad’s life was when he got to understand the message of Jesus Christ, accepted Christ personally and was baptized upon his faith at Pansy Chapel. Although later, being the deep thinker that he was, he sometimes really struggled with various questions, but, one thing remained clear to him always, Jesus Christ was his Lord and Savior. He rejoiced in that and he lived it in his daily life.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Kiersten and his son Rob, both from Halifax, daughter Rayne (Tony) Wiens of Pansy, and son Clint; his parents Bob and Margaret Tough of Kelowna, BC and one brother David of Prince Rupert. He was predeceased by his brother Ron.
A Memorial service For Jim was held Friday, October 13 at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, With ash interment to take place at a later date.
