Barry Jackson Burgess

We are sad to announce the passing of Barry on May 20, 2024 in St. Albert, Alberta. He is survived by his best friend, soul mate and wife of 67 years Patricia (nee Galaugher). Beloved and dedicated father of Kelly (Rob), Lynda, Brenda (Bernie) and Paul (Wendy). Loving and supportive grandfather of Lindsay, Kelsey, Kennedy, Jae-Lyn, Sam-Jaxon and great grandson Makyn.
Barry graduated with the first class of the Venture Naval Academy in 1956. He went on to serve in the RCN/CAF for 24 plus years, retiring with the rank of Commander in 1978. Barry and Patricia formed many life-long friendships with the members of the Venture Association and enjoyed the many reunions they were able to attend.
Following his military career, Barry served in senior management positions with Edmonton Transit and the Alberta Provincial Public Service retiring as an ADM with Alberta Family and Social Services. He was able to complete a degree in Economics from the University of Manitoba and obtained the RIA (CMA/CPA) designations through Carlton University.
Barry was active in sports in his youth having played basketball, football and rugby at high levels. He remained active in sport later in life having coached minor hockey and baseball at various levels.
He was supportive of his children and grandchildren in their various activities and often referred to himself as "chauffeur to the stars". His support was greatly appreciated, and he will sorely missed.
